As a 1996 baby as well, I totally resonate with this! My favorites were everythinggirl and Polly Pocket. I remember when my family got our first ever computer and I was so excited!
Lovely article! Very similar to my childhood. Thank God I had a friend in high school who let me read her Rookie magazines because I couldn’t afford them <3 :,)
I'm glad you relate <3 I had a friend who bought all the yearbooks, and I was so grateful because I too wouldn't have been able to afford them and it was so exciting to finally be able to read it in actual print instead of just scrolling online!!!
I’m a 2000s baby but I relate to everything and making an effort to bring back that magic ✨ in my life back again 😋 and letting my inner child thrive again 😇
Weird you posted this right now because I just unearthed a little drawing that I did when I was a child that mentioned being in the computer room! I was always obsessed with the internet, and I wish the only negative of the internet now was going square eyed haha.
Have you played Dress to Impress? It really gave me that special feeling that dress up games used to when I was 9. xx
....which reminds me, i have to go feed my neopets.
i feel ya. even though i'm a gen Xer, i always loved being on the computer as much as possible. i learned to code with the website "lissa explains it all". i blogged on livejournal. i still miss those horrendous geocities sites!

I was inspired from Rookie to make her a zine for one of her bdays . I taught myself how to use Indesign. A great memory I have :)
my fav parts of the week were when my friend would call our landline and we’d chat for hours while playing webkinz together
omg the landline calls I miss those days so much!!!

Rookie Magazine was the OG cool girl STAPLE! 💕
it really was!!! I always wanted to be as cool and smart and creative as them (I wish I could go back and tell 17 year old me that I already was!!!)
